Meian Nunnery Introduction

Located in the west suburbs of Duanzhou district, Zhaoqing, Guangdong province, Meian Nunnery was built o­n Meian hillock during Northern Song dynasty period, in honor of the Buddhism Chan sect HuiNeng. It belongs to the natural special cultural relic protection site and it is where the city museum of Zhaoqing locates.

Meian Nunnery Features

Meian Nunnery is constructed to enshrine and worship the Chan sect HuiNeng, so it has a very important position in Buddhism. What’ more important, the ancient architecture it remains, has significant scientific research value of studying the structure, skill and technology history of Chinese ancient architecture.
 The Meian nunnery started the construction in 996 AC in Northern Song dynasty period. It is said that it was the place where HuiNeng planted plums himself. The nunnery has an area of 625 square meters. There exists constructions, such as the Main Hall, founder palace, the courtyard and so o­n.
