Yibin Introduction

Located at the junction of the Minjiang River and Yangtze River, Yibin, a prefecture-level city in southern Sichuan Province, covers an area of 13,282 square kilometers and has amazing natural landscapes and fantastic historical interests. To the north lies the province of Sichuan, the most heavily populated province of China. To the south Yunnan and Guizhou provinces.Yibin consists of one district and nine counties (Chuiping, Yibin, Nanxi, Jiang'an, Changning, Gao, Junlian, Xingwen, Pingshan and Gong) and has a population of over 500,000,000 people.
The history of YiBin stems from a time of which little is known, evolving though times of invasions, empires and dynasties. We do know that it was not always the Han Chinese who populated Sichuan province. nor did it carry that name - but the three rivers must have been here longer than any man, thus the province is aptly named. We know of the Bo people who lived in this district under the Xia, Shang and Zhou dynasties (1100-256 BC). The Bo populated Yibin were called Dao in Chinese, thus the county encompassing Yibin was called Bo Dao county. The name has changed slightly through the ages simply by the act of translation from one tongue to another. one time the name was changed due to politics - it sounded too much like the name of the emperor. Also Yibin has suffered the fate of the vanquished. In 1276 AD the city was completely torched and demolished by Yuan invaders - but later a new city was built on the same spot.
The city's industries focus on electronics, food products, and the power generation. There are also industries of paper, silk, and leather. The surrounding region is rich in agricultural resources, growing rice, barley, oil seeds, sesame, and tea.
Endowed by nature with beautiful scenery, Yibin also has a lot of historic sites. In the center of the city is the Daguan Building, which was built in the fifth year of the Yuanhe reign in the Tang Dynasty (618-907); in the north bank of the Minjiang River is the Beiliu Pond and it was built when Huang Tingjian lived in Rongzhou in banishment; the Old City Tower on the site of the ancient dam was built in the third year of the Leiguan reign in the Northern Song Dynasty (960-1127); on Zhenwu Mountain stands the Xuanzu Palace and the temple group of Zhenwu Mountain; halfway up Cuiping Mountain, which was said to be the birthplace of the divine warrior -- Nata, is the Memorial Hall of Zhao Yiman. The Buddha and the Arhat sculptures on the Qinfo Cliff are both of high artistic value. Yibin is the jade in the ancient Southern Silk Road.
